Selling himself cheap: Councillor Hoar’s a wanted man

This was spotted by our loyal reader in North End yesterday, at the Green Fair…

Wanted - Simon Hoar

Clearly, Councillor Simon “I’m cheap, but I’m not free” Hoar’s reputation is sinking lower than ever.

Being spotted going door to door in his ward in Waddon, delivering leaflets on behalf of Viridor, the commercial company that has massive commercial interests in the building of a waste incinerator at Beddington Lane, will have done little to inspire confidence that Hoar and his Tory colleagues truly represent the interests of their local residents, rather than big business.

After all, Waddon and other wards in the north of Croydon are likely to suffer more than any where else from the fumes, particulates and other pollution that gets pumped out from a working incinerator in such a built-up area.

And Hoar and his Waddon Conservative colleagues, Tony Harris and the shrill builders’ lobbyist Clare Hilley, did have a natty line in posters of their own, when they promised to oppose the building of any incinerator “or anything similar” in or on the borders of Croydon.

Croydon Tories' incinerator pledge from 2010: not worth the paper it was printed on

That was when they were canvassing for residents’ votes.

Once re-elected, all three duly voted in favour of building the incinerator.

I have twice written to Cllr Hoar to ask the reason for his apparent change of mind. No prizes for guessing that I’m still waiting for a reply.
