Croydon College student wins Miss Belly Dance UK

[Well that’s a headline I never thought I’d write]

According to a news release on the Croydon College website, one of its former students, Delia Lewis, has won the national belly dancing title. In the final staged in Bournemouth just over a month ago, 26-year-old Lewis beat 14 rivals as they were judged on their musical interpretation, originality, technique, appearance, presentation and overall performance.

Lewis started belly dancing just over a decade ago, but because she could not afford to pay for lessons, she taught herself by watching other dancers on television.

Since graduating from Oxford University, Lewis is now studying social anthropology at the School of Oriental and African Studies.

She says she wants to teach Egyptian-style belly dancing, while, the release states, “Delia is readily available for tuition, workshops, charity events, weddings and corporate shows”. And probably christening and bar mitzvahs, too, if you ask her nicely.
