Inside Croydon’s been going for not quite a month now, but already we are on to the fourth “header” image (it’s that picture you can see at the top of the page above). Now we are asking our readers to offer us pictures for future header images on the site.

Given this week’s railway signage, with the wonderfully evocative old Southern Railway green enamel and Gill Sans type face (the sign is from the long-closed Bingham Road station, close to the site of the present-day Addiscombe Tramlink stop), and our previous Croydon Trams shot (in their original red livery, as one eagle-eyed reader spotted), you might think that Inside Croydon has a transport fetish.

Not in an unhealthy way, we’d suggest. But transport is certain to feature largely on this blog, because our core subject matter is a town that grew up because of its geographical position, at a gap in the North Downs on the route from London south to the coast.

With our large commuter population, who make the most of Croydon’s three railway stations with services to London, plus the Tram and bus services, transport will certainly feature prominently here at Inside Croydon.

But for our all-important “header” picture, we have also already used shots of the Nestle building at night (above left) and of signage outside the sometimes controversial Lunar House.

Now we are asking for our readers’ help in sourcing other images that sum up some part of daily life in and around Croydon.

You don’t need to be a professional photographer, or even a well-practised amateur. Most people’s mobile phones today have lenses which even a decade ago could only be found on top-end cameras, which allow most of us to capture outstanding quality pictures. What we want is to see Croydon through your eyes.

The images can be of almost anything: a scene in Surrey Street market, a summer’s afternoon in Lloyd Park, a view over Croydon from a nearby vantage point. The sole requirement is that your picture needs to epitomise some aspect of life in Croydon.

Sorry – there’s no prizes and no fees paid, but we will give a credit for any pictures we use.
