What are Palace’s real chances this season?

Defeats in Crystal Palace’s two pre-season games against non-League opposition earlier this week is hardly promising ahead of Double-winning Chelsea’s arrival at Selhurst Park this afternoon.

After all the problems on and off the pitch in recent months, season ticket-holder Terry Duffelen has outlined a set of reasonable expectations for the side under new manager George Burley.

Let’s have some decent football: I’m not naive enough to believe that Palace’s players are as good as Barcelona but I would like to see them emulate the modern style of possession football and pressing the opposition when off the ball. Preferably, I’d like to see a lone striker up front supported by two attacking midfielders and two defensive midfielders assuming Burley has the personnel to achieve this.”
