The residents’ campaign against Croydon Council’s Draconian proposals to extend parking restrictions will take to the streets tomorrow evening, with a protest outside the Town Hall, Katherine Street, from 6pm on Monday Jan 31.
Campaigners and local businesses, outraged at proposals to extend parking hours in five controlled zones, have already managed to get thousands of supporters to sign a petition and send notices of complaint about the plans.
The campaigners are concerned that some of the councillors, who receive thousands of pounds-worth of free parking benefits, have little understanding of the hardships that the money-making proposals would create if passed at a further council meeting next month.
Now, they are tabling questions to Monday’s council meeting and are calling on a show of strength.
“By the time the Transport Management Cabinet Committee meet on February 9, we get the impression that they will have already made their decision,” a campaign spokesman says.
“Thus this is the last chance to let all councillors really appreciate the scale of our unhappiness at the parking proposals.”
