Oscar-winning director David Lean, whose work is to be celebrated with a season of his films being shown in the Spreadeagle pub, next to the Town Hall
The Save the David Lean Cinema Campaign’s season of the master director’s work begins this Tuesday, January 3, in the Spreadeagle pub, barely 50 yards from the David Lean Cinema in the Clock Tower which was so needlessly closed by Croydon Council last year.
All screenings are free, except for the price of a drink (at least one) bought at the bar. Even councillors who voted through the closure of the David Lean Cinema will be welcome, apparently, so that they will be able to see what a small auditorium cinema using a digital projector is really like.
There are screenings at 2.30pm and 8pm on the following dates:
- Jan 3: In Which We Serve (1942)
- Jan 17: The Passionate Friends (1949)
- Jan 31: This Happy Breed (1944)
- Feb 14: Hobson’s Choice (1954)
- Feb 28: Blithe Spirit (1945)
