Fairfield Halls will get the Hollywood treatment next month, when Tippi Hedren will appear on stage to talk about her life and career, all backed up by the New Queen’s Hall Orchestra on stage to play some of the greatest film scores.

The Hitchcock & Hollywood show on March 17 will feature clips from some of director Alfred Hitchcock’s most famous films, as Hedren will discuss Vertigo, Psycho, Marnie, The Man Who Knew Too Much and North By North West.
Londoner Hitchcock, who died in 1980, directed nearly 60 feature films, earning the title of “the Master of Suspense”.
With a career that began working on silent movies in London, Hitchcock always had a deep understanding of music’s role in heightening tension – something which Croydon’s David Lean and more recent directors, such as Steven Spielberg have also well understood.
Hitchcock also knew when not to use music: The Birds, probably Hedren’s most famous film, had no music. Psycho used nothing but strings, yet spawned a billion-selling ring tone.
Tippi Hedren, now in her 80s, is soon to be the subject of a new movie, The Girl, in which Sienna Miller will play the Hollywood star and chart her relationship with the director.
Hedren is also famous for her love of wild animals. Having met her first lion while filming in Africa, she has since devoted herself to looking after some 60 big cats, including lions, tigers, leopards and cougars, many of them cast-offs from zoos and circuses, at her reserve in California.
