Documents show £255,000 of riot cash spent with PR firm

Croydon Council’s CEO refused to allow the press to attend an open meeting of the West Croydon Community Forum on Thursday. Click here to read our report.

Perhaps Jon Rouse did not want to face questions about the council’s ballooning spend on a PR firm, White Label Consultants, as illustrated by this document, which shows that Croydon Council has spent £255,000 in the past year, seven times more than it admitted in an official answer to Public Question Time at the Town Hall this week.

  1. I thought that the Council said that they were short of money. Obviously they had a spare £255,000 available that they did not know about.

There are basically three scenarios going on in Croydon Council:

    1) The CEO does not know what the Council is spending, in which case he should be sacked.

    2) The CEO does know what the Council is spending, in which case he should be sacked through overspending and/or the Cabinet and Leader should be more thorough in their internal scrutiny of their officers.

    3) The CEO does know what the Council is spending but has been told by the Cabinet and Leader to keep it confidential. If so the Leader and Cabinet are misleading their voters; and putting the CEO in an impossible position.

Whilst we as voters (who pay for virtually all Council expenditure) do not have the power to sack the CEO, we can sack the Tory administration, which we can do in 2014.

  2. Two years are a long time. This administration must be stopped sooner, much sooner than that.

They do not uphold democracy and hold us, the plebs, in contempt.

I am not advocating any spilling of blood but the full reclamation of our democratic rights.

We must demand service and question why service is not rendered.

On my part, I will appear everywhere I can. So many are already working with me to change #secretcroydon.

I doubt White Label would exist without Croydon Council. £255k is about half their total turnover. You do wonder how they got the job.
