Arnie Graf, the American community activist and mentor to President Barack Obama, will be the guest of honour at the second meeting of the Friends of Ashburton Park, to be staged this Wednesday, October 23.

Graf has 50 years experience working on community campaigns in Chicago, and last year, at the invitation of Ed Miliband, he conducted a review of the Labour party. “Graf’s report was never published, and he remains influential but near invisible to those outside Labour’s inner circle,” The Grauniad noted recently.

So now the people of Croydon have an opportunity to seek his advice on how to thwart Croydon Council’s recently announced plans to sell the Old Library building, against the wishes of local residents, many of whom support keeping the building for community use.

The meeting is being held on Wednesday, October 23, from 6.30pm in the drama room at the Oasis High School on Shirley Road.
