Film Club to screen courtroom classics in South Norwood

12-angry-men-posterContinuing Stanley Halls Film Club’s season of screening unforgettable classics in the rejuvenated arts venue in South Norwood are two of the most famous courtroom dramas in the history of cinema: Gregory Peck in To Kill a Mockingbird this Thursday (Apr 23) and Henry Fonda in Twelve Angry Men on May 7.

For both shows, doors open at 7pm for drinks and the features begin at 8pm.

Tickets are free for members and no booking is needed.

To Kill a Mockingbird – Thu April 23 (Robert Mulligan; 1957)
Harper Lee’s classic novel in an unforgettable film adaptation that won three Oscars. Starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch, a lawyer in the Depression-era South, who defends a black man against a concocted rape charge, and his kids against prejudice.

Twelve Angry Men – Thu May 7 (Sidney Lumet; 1957)
Eleven jurors are convinced that the defendant is guilty of murder. The twelfth has no doubt of his innocence. How can one man steer the others to the same conclusion? Nominated for three Oscars, The Hollywood Reporter called it “one of the best pictures ever made”.

  1. Twelve Angry Men is a truly brilliant film. If you’ve not seen it then you should. I think it should be compulsory viewing in schools, and a must see for anyone interested in drama.
