Amnesty Croydon and Croydon Youth Theatre Organisation are backing a one-off performance by Swithin Fry about an African-American man on death row in Ohio.
The show is this Saturday, October 17 at 7pm at the Shoestring Theatre, South Norwood.
Dear Tim: Echoes of Death Row is about Tim Coleman – inmate A328139, pictured above – who Swithin believes is innocent, yet has been on death row for 18 years convicted of aggravated murder. Four years after he was convicted, another man admitted to being the killer, but Tim is still on death row – Swithin’s show explores why.
Coleman is allowed six mandatory appeals. His last appeal for a retrial, after a delay of more than a year, was denied and he is now on the last appeal.
Swithin’s show brings the audience into Coleman’s cell, where he recreates the moment when the letter about the admitted killer was received, was at this year’s Brighton Fringe Festival where it was described by BBC Radio Sussex as “a powerful solo show”.
There will be refreshments and a question and answer session after the show.
CYTO’s Shoestring Theatre is at Oakley Road, South Norwood, SE25 4XG
