The Lakes Playground Action Group in South Norwood is inviting families to enjoy a bracing country walk, pram push, scoot or bike ride on Saturday, February 6, to help raise money for its crowdfunding campaign.
There will be cake and refreshments, too. The event’s open to children of all ages, and begins at 11am and runs to 3pm.
The organisers are hoping that children taking part, on their bikes or scooters, can each raise £10 in sponsorship.
The Lakes Playground Action Group was formed in 2013 with the aim of providing a better play experience for children who visit South Norwood Lake and Grounds. Last year, they won a grant from a community project fund, but they still need more contributions to provide the sort of playground that the children in the neighbourhood deserve.

The council are spending huge sums on ‘improving the streetscene’ in South Norwood and Woodside – at 3 sites literally a short walk from the lakes. This improvement is simply not needed and is a complete waste. I would love them to redirect this money to improving our parks – Norwood Lakes needs some improvement but so does a lot of our borough’s playgrounds and parks. We shouldn’t have to go on fun-runs if the money is already there. The money should just be spent more wisely and where it is more needed. And if a clever councillor takes note they may actually win some votes out of it. Maybe that will convince them…
