The next two Croydon Natural History and Scientific Society Talks offer insights, ancient and more modern.
Tomorrow, Monday March 7, the topic is “Rock of Ages: Stonemasons – The Architects of Mediaeval Europe”. Funny handshakes won’t be required to attend.
James Wright, senior archaeologist at the Museum of London, will talk on historic masonry, the men who shaped not only the material but the architectural appearance of the Medieval period.
On Monday, March 21, the subject is “Who Did You See At Croydon’s Empire, Grand and Davis Theatres?”
Perhaps with added topical poignancy, this is a review of Croydon’s last surviving major theatres and their famous performers, with accompanying film clips, the talk given by Richard Norman and Carole Roberts.
The CNHSS Monday talks are at 7.30pm in the Small Hall, East Croydon United Reformed Church Hall, Addiscombe Grove East Croydon CR0 5LP. Close to the transport hub and with free parking.
