Croydon’s free Jobs Fair offers £5m-worth of business

Hundreds of jobs and business opportunities are up for grabs at this year’s South London Jobs Fair, being staged at the Fairfield Halls on June 23 – where entry to the event is free.

Local employers surveyed last month estimated that they did almost £5-million-worth of business thanks to the contacts they made at the fair.

The event’s organisers, 3D Change, describe the event as a “jobs fair with a difference” as it focusses on helping local people find work with local businesses and helping those businesses win contracts with housing associations and local authorities.

“I’m proud of what we’ve achieved with the event,” Moira Skinner, the managing director of the Croydon-based 3D Change, said, “because of the positive effect the South London Jobs Fair is having on the local economy.  This is something that last month’s evaluation has clearly demonstrated.

“This is the first time a jobs fair has actually gone out to evaluate the long-term effects of their event.”

The evaluation report, which includes case-studies, is available to the public on request.

The 2016 Jobs Fair will include improvements introduced as a result of the evaluation.  These include extra opportunities for businesses to meet suppliers informally, more “in public” training and head-hunting events, a “business-card matching system” and free business pitching advice on the day.

The fair is open from 10am to 3pm.

Ironic isn’t it that this jobs fair is being held in the Fairfield Halls. The very place that due to miss management by successive Croydon Councils over many years and lack of investment, the Halls themselves are closing down and may never re-open. That means that all of the staff will………. yes, you’ve guessed it… loose their jobs!!
