Philipa Harvey, one of the National Union of Teachers’ national officers, and Ted Knight are among the key note speakers on June 28 when the Croydon Assembly stages an “Education in Crisis” meeting at Ruskin House in Croydon.
Teachers are balloting for strike action to defend education and their terms and conditions which are under serious threat.
The Conservative Government has backed off from compelling all schools to become academies immediately, but it still intends every school should become an academy by 2020.
According to Knight, the former leader of Lambeth Council who chairs the Croydon Assembly, “At the same time there is a crisis in teacher recruitment, there are funding cuts that will harm children’s education, there’s a huge shortfall in the number of school places that are needed, and there is chaos and confusion around primary testing.”

How many times has it got to be said. Politicians must leave education to the teaching profession. Every single time MP’s or Local Councillors get involved, the whole country takes another step back towards a sub-standard education system. Just let the teachers get on with what they themselves have been taught to do……………….TEACH!
