And the public guided walk at Beddington Farmlands this week could also be one of the last chances to benefit from the experience and knowledge of local wildlife warden Peter Alfrey, who has announced that he is moving on to other projects.

Alfrey has been producing the Beddington bird report since 1987 and was a founding member of the bird group in 1992.

The Beddington Farmlands bird group organises a series of events through the year, most of which are for their members and associate members – membership details can be found by clicking here.

But this Sunday’s bird and wildlife walk is open to the public.

The Beddington bird group says: “These events are very popular and places fill up very quickly. To book a place please contact us with your name, contact number and which event your wish to join.”

After this weekend, the next members’ event is on June 26, while next month there is a moth-trapping event (date to be arranged depending on weather).

On September 18, members will gather to monitor autumn bird migration.
