There are increasing concern about a spate of armed robberies committed by what has been described as a “moped gang” against residents and visitors in the Park Hill area.
The latest assault came on Turnpike Link this morning.
“They surround people early or late in the day and take their stuff and escape on mopeds,” was how the incident was described by an Inside Croydon reader, calling them, “moped scum”.
Park Hill Residents’ Association sent out a message from the Metropolitan Police’s Safer Neighbourhood Team on Thursday: “I’m sorry to have to inform you that there has been another knife-point robbery on our patch. This time on Turnpike Link outside of Maybourne Grange tower block at 0530hrs this morning. Last week it was on Bracewood Gardens at a similar time.
“The victims were getting into a taxi on the way to the airport and were approached by two males on a moped and threatened with a knife demanding personal property. At this point we do not have any more information than that as the victims are now in the sky on route to their destination.
“We appeal for any information regarding this incident and we want you to be vigilant and aware of what is going on. We are revising our shift pattern for roughly the next two weeks to 0500hrs-1400hrs so that we can attempt to intercept these offenders. We will do all we can in conjunction with our CID to bring these offenders to justice.”
