Wayne Trakas-Lawlor, the Mayor of Croydon, visited the South East Cancer Help Centre yesterday to mark the successful campaign, which raised twice as much cash as in 2015.

The Mayor, who talked about his personal experience of supporting a family member with cancer, said, “It’s fantastic to be here at the Centre. Thank you for everything you do by offering your counselling services and for the inspiration you give. This place is full of life and positive vibrations.”

Jennifer Mollett, the SECHC chairman, said, “The Mayor’s support and that of Chris Philp MP, everyone in the Purley area and all our volunteers, has been amazing. The energy that this year’s campaign has generated has been fantastic and we are hoping to build on that enthusiasm next year.”

SECHC, which has local NHS recognition, can be found in the Tesco Development, 2 Purley Road, Purley, CR8 2HA.

Hypnotherapy, Reiki, Aromatherapy, Mindfulness Meditation and Reflexology are just some of the therapies available. Activities include yoga, Tai Chi, drama, relaxation, and arts & crafts. SECHC offers bereavement, family, telephone and individual counselling sessions and there are various support groups including specific ones for carers and those with ovarian, bowel, prostate, or breast cancer.
