Council planning chief agrees to give a talk to ‘ladies’ of Purley

Heather Cheesbrough, Croydon’s six-figure salaried director of planning and strategic transport, is to address a public meeting next week – at an event which is only open to women.

Heather Cheesborough: director appointment which defies council's recruitment freeze

Heather Cheesbrough: chosen her public engagements carefully

Cheesbrough has been in post at Fisher’s Folly, the council offices, for a year, where she is responsible for strategic planning, development management, strategic transport and building control.

According to Croydon Council at the time of her appointment, “Key priorities of her role will include the delivery of the Westfield Hammerson planning application, enabling Croydon to realise its growth ambitions, ensuring Croydon has effective transport infrastructure and upholding the council’s obligations as a planning authority.”

It’s rare that a senior council official does a turn in public – unless it’s Cheesbrough’s boss, Jo Negrini, who these days is too busy to attend council meetings because she’s out collecting accolades from some of the people she has hired to work in Croydon.

Cheesbrough has chosen the Purley and District Townswomen’s Guild for her public appearance. There’s just a chance that she might be asked questions about what Tories in the south of the borough persist in calling the “Purley skyscraper”.

On its website, the guild states: “New ladies are welcome to join our friendly group.” Goodness knows what you do if you don’t consider yourself to be a “lady”.

Oh, and, “Free tea and coffee.”

The Cheesbrough event will be held at the guild’s regular venue, The Lounge, at the United Reformed Church, 906 Brighton Road, Purley, CR8 2LN, from 2pm next Tuesday, February 7.

  1. When is she going to speak to gentlemen of Croydon north

  2. No need to speak to the North of the Borough as that is more than covered by planning expert, Senior Partner of a prestigious International Architecture firm, Chair of the Planning Committee Paul Scott. He can be contacted on a number of mediums, & posts on here.

I believe his wife has some well, placed connections in the Council as well.
