There will be a vigil at Potters Fields Park, close to City Hall between Tower Bridge and London Bridge, from 6pm today to honour the victims of Saturday’s terrorist attack.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan: condemns barbaric cowards
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, invites all Londoners – and everyone visiting our city – to “come together in solidarity to remember those who have lost their lives, to express sympathy with their families and loved ones and to show the world that we stand united in the face of those who try to harm us and our way of life.
“We will never let these cowards win and we will never be cowed by terrorism.”
In a statement, the Mayor said, “There are no words to describe the grief and anger that our city is feeling.
“Tragically, seven people have been killed in this sickening attack, and more than 40 injured, some of them critically.
“I am appalled and furious that these twisted and cowardly terrorists deliberately targeted innocent Londoners and visitors to our city who were just enjoying their Saturday night.
“I condemn these terrorists in the strongest possible terms. They are barbaric cowards and there is absolutely no justification for their evil and unforgivable actions.
“My thoughts are with the family and friends of the victims and everyone caught up in this horrific attack.
“I’d like to thank our emergency services who bravely tackled the terrorists and helped the injured. I am in close contact with the Met Police Commissioner and senior officers and have attended the government’s COBRA security meeting.
“I’d urge all Londoners to remain calm and vigilant today and over the days ahead. We are all shocked and angry today but this is our city – we will never let these cowards win and we will never be cowed by terrorism.”

Tough talk from the Mayor
but the fact is “the cowards are winning”
Every time a “coward” takes the life of a Londoner that is a victory for them even if their lives are taken as well.
Tough talk can’t save lives.
So what do we do?
Withdraw and hide away?
If we do that we are handing victory to the “cowards”.
So what do we do?
I agree that “enough is enough” but unless “the cowards” decide to give up on terrorism what use are the words of a Prime Minister?
This is indeed our city,
but if we don’t feel safe what is the point?
The fact is “the cowards” have got us on the back foot
and until they decide to let us relax
no amount of tough talk from Mayor’s and meaningless slogans from Prime Ministers will change a thing
because this is all about control.
The cowards have got us where they want us
and as long as we remain in this position they retain control over us.
So what do we do?
Leave everything in the hands of the PM that says enough is enough?
Will that prevent another mass slaughter on the streets of London?
I doubt it…
I went to work in the city centre last night, travelling back from Victoria. As have hundreds of thousands today.
