Having run Tree ID quizzes at events for a number of years, it is surprising how few, even amongst interested persons, can ID more than 2 or 3 of our native trees from leaves and fruit, let alone winter twigs and buds – there are only 35 or so, as compared to 60 oak species alone in the USA, It is a terrible shame that the individual characteristics of species, which used to be so important in the lives of ordinary people, have pretty much disappeared from the common consciousness. This is a great event, thank you.
