Wandle Park: been subjected to some dangerous vandalism over the weekend
Parents of young children and dog-walkers are being urged to take extra care when out enjoying their local park, after reports at the weekend of poison and broken glass being deliberately left to cause harm.
The incident occurred in Wandle Park, with one dog taking the poison and suffering internal bleeding as a consequence. With treatment, the animal is not at risk.
While the broken glass and poison is suspected as being left to cause random harm to dogs, the potential of these traps hurting children or even parks staff undertaking their duties is clear.
The matter has been reported to the Neighbourhood Safety Officers, and the council has alerted its parks staff.
According to a council source, it is thought that this may be an isolated incident, “But park users just need to exercise a little extra caution and awareness when out enjoying the borough’s green spaces.”
Park users are also asked to take extra care to take all their litter home with them, particularly cans and glass bottles, to ensure that they are properly reused or recycled.
