Festival organisers seeking £4,000 help from Tesco shoppers

Crystal Palace’s annual festival is celebrating receiving almost £40,000 in grants – but wants the help of Tesco shoppers to further boost its funding ahead of the 2018 event, which is being staged on June 11 to 17.

Last summer, after a one-year hiatus, the festival returned and was staged in Crystal Palace Park for the first time, attracting 28,500 visitors to the park and thousands more attending community events across the festival week.

For 2018, the festival has dropped “Overground” from its title.

It’s “just Crystal Palace Festival from now on”, the organisers say. “We continue to work with London Overground to bring thousands of visitors to the event.

“The refreshing of the festival’s look has been designed to ensure you can easily see just how much is going on in Crystal Palace Park and across the whole area – mainly for free!”

A new-look website will be launched later this month, with announcements of headline acts to follow.

The festival has received its grant aid from Arts Council England, Croydon Council, Bromley Council and Bromley Community Fund.

“We are thrilled with the support from our funders that show a strong belief in our free event and which will support the inclusion of deaf and disabled artists in our programme for the first time,” the festival team says.

And they are chasing after another £4,000 in cash from one of the country’s biggest supermarket chains, and are asking for south London shoppers to help.

The festival is one of the listed beneficiaries in Tesco’s Customer Vote Scheme for February.

All Tesco customers have to do is take the charitable cause token they are given at the check-out after completing their shopping, and put the token into the Crystal Palace Festival box.

The participating Tesco and Tesco Express stores are:
Tesco Express, Anerley Road
Tesco Express, Croydon Rd Penge
Tesco Express, Penge High St
Elmers End Superstore
Tesco Express, Beckenham
Bromley Superstore
Tesco Expresses, Bromley High St
Tesco Express, Plaistow Lane Bromley
Tesco Extra, Orpington
Tesco Express, Biggin Hill
Tesco Express, St Paul’s Cray

The festival team also ask that you share your moment of benevolence. “If you can take a photo of yourself putting the token in and tweet it that would be amazing!

“Don’t forget to tag us with our new Twitter handle @CPFestivalUK.”
