BBC seeking budding antiques dealers for a new TV show

The BBC is looking for enthusiastic amateurs from around Croydon who would like to be an antiques dealer.

Catherine Southon and Paul Martin were flogging the dealer’s books, too, at the last televised auction

The Beeb is recording the second series of Make Me A Dealer, and the programme, hosted by antiques expert Paul Martin, will be filming at Catherine Southon’s auction at Farleigh Court Golf Club in Selsdon on May 1.

“We always enjoy it when TV crews come along to our sales – it adds an element of excitement,” Southon told Inside Croydon.

“This is the second time that Paul’s programme has joined us and not only will be offering a few tips of the trade on the day, they are also looking for possible contestants – so contact the show now if you want to get involved.”

Southon’s auction will include a collection of fine Georgian and early Victorian jewellery.

In the TV programme, two wannabe antiques and collectible dealers go head to head to buy items at auction before trying to sell them on at profit. It’s down to each contestant to identify items that can hopefully be sold for a profit.

Throughout each show you will see and feel the competition between the contributors with video diaries: Is their opponent doing better than them? How will they know how much to bid? Will they make the profit or will their dreams be dashed?

To apply, email makemeadealer@bbc.co.uk to request an application form.

Contestants must be over 18 and be happy to take a risk with their own money, so the stakes are high. The minimum spend is £100. What do you mean, you thought this was coming out of the Licence Fee?
