Healthwatch Croydon, the area’s health service watchdog, has appointed a new local leadership board.

Comprising Croydon residents, Edwina Morris, a recently retired social worker, has been appointed chair with Martin Faiers as deputy. Pat Knight, Brian Matthews, Anantha Ramaswamy and Tariq Salim are the other board members.

The board members were selected by a panel that included two Croydon community representatives.

Emma Leatherbarrow, Help and Care’s director of partnerships, will continue to attend board meetings representing the contract-holder, the Croydon NHS Trust, as will Gordon Kay, Healthwatch Croydon manager, who is responsible for the operational delivery of the service.

Edwina Morris: chairs the local leadership board

“I am really pleased to have been selected as a member of Healthwatch Croydon’s local leadership board,” said Morris.

“I am looking forward to working with staff, volunteers, board members and local residents to ensure that Healthwatch Croydon influences local health and care services in order to improve the experiences of and outcomes for local people.”

Kay said: “It is good to have a local leadership board that understands the challenges and opportunities of shifting and rapidly changing health and social care landscape for Croydon.

“I am very pleased to see that five board members are already active volunteers with us, with one other having had Healthwatch volunteer experience in another borough. Their focus and commitment will help drive us forward to make a difference to Croydon residents and local health and care services.”
