My father was evacuated to many different locations from the family home in the south of the Borough and what was then Coulsdon & Purley DC. Destinations included Leeds and north Wales. He went to 11 different schools before he went to Purley Grammar school. He was back for the raids on Kenley and for 1944 stationing of US troops at Parson’s Pightle on way to Normandy invasion. My father says he took them tea from the flat opposite in Coulsdon Road.
Much like Andrew’s Father I went to Leeds and was resident when it was bombed, came back to Croydon for the first V1 to arrive, so went back to Leeds again! BTW somebody should tell the organisers that post codes had not arrived in 1940’s we were just, and proud of it, CROYDON, SURREY
Hi so my Dad was bombed out of Senga Road and rehomed to Ross Road and went to Highview School Wallington… how would I go about finding out if anyone from his years at that school were till alive and on something like Facebook etc., 1947 to 1951?? any help welcomed.. Carol Copland – on Facebook
