Many good things start in Croydon.
Right Reverend Michael Perham, Lord Bishop of Gloucester
Michael Perham started on his road to ministry as an assistant curate at Addington Village’s historic church, St Mary’s. Today, Perham returns to the church as the “Lord Bishop of Gloucester, the Right Reverend Michael Perham”.
The Lord Bishop sits in the Lords and speaks on constitutional reform at this time of likely significant change to their Lordships’ house. He also covers local government, so let’s hope that the parishioners are able to mention Croydon’s crisis over tea after the service.
The Bishop is also one of the church’s top liturgical experts and is the author of 14 books.
He is visiting the 11th century Norman church to celebrate the lives of the Rev and Mrs Noburn, who were at the church during the Bishop’s time at St. Mary’s. The couple passed away within weeks of each other. The service will finish in the churchyard with the couple’s ashes.
This will be a poignant service and occasion, both for the congregation and the Bishop.
