It gets worse: three-day week plus five jobs lost at UNJL

It was under Ted Heath’s Conservative government in the 1970s that Britain was reduced to a three-day week. Until, that is, Croydon’s 2013 Tories came along, because they have managed to reduce the operation at Upper Norwood Joint Library to just three days each week by withdrawing funding.

This is markedly worse than the situation we reported yesterday, and we are grateful to loyal reader Lorraine Walter and the Upper Norwood Library campaign for bringing the correct situation to our attention.

The notices that have gone up in the library this week clarify that five library staff are to lose their jobs as a consequence of Croydon’s stubbornly dogmatic attempts to undermine a century’s worth of public service.
