As outlined with previous reports about the Good Companions, the Swan and Sugarloaf and the Red Deer, the pub business is under pressure.
So if we want to keep our local, we need to help to support it, and this Bank Holiday weekend’s Beer Festival at the Crown and Sceptre on Junction Road in South Croydon might be an opportunity to do just that.
The residential road setting of the Crown and Sceptre gives it a peaceful atmosphere, but it is nonetheless often busy with locals enjoying the good service and the reasonably priced food – a roast Sunday lunch of beef, pork, lamb or chicken comes in at less than £7. If you want a table on a Sunday lunchtime, booking a table is advised.
From Friday to Bank Holiday Monday, the Beer Festival has 10 guest ales on tap, including Adnams’ Ghost Ship bitter, Schiehallion Gold Ale all the way from Clackmannanshire, and the intriguingly named Oscar Wilde Mild.
