Barclays offers free bike checks in South Norwood: May 25

Croydon might not be getting any Boris Bikes any time soon (despite various nudges and winks made at election time) or any of the blue-painted cycle superhighways.

But in South Norwood Park tomorrow (Saturday May 25: from noon to 2pm), the scheme’s sponsors, Barclays, will team up with social enterprise Bikeworks to provide free roadside bicycle safety checks.

On yer bike: TV presenter Christine Bleakley is “backing” the Barclays bike fix scheme. Not that she is expected to be fixing punctures in South Norwood tomorrow

Barclays is aiming to fix punctures, dodgy brakes and wobbly wheels on more than 5,000 bikes around the capital as part of the bike-fix scheme.

The Bike Clinics will be positioned at the Barclays Spaces for Sport site at South Norwood recreation ground, capturing Londoners as they cycle over the weekend.

The Bike Clinics will be manned by graduates of Cycle Into Work, a scheme enabling young disadvantaged people to take up training and employment in the growing cycling industry.
