Stonework in 21st century is Norwood Society’s next talk

st-paulsThe next history talk at the Norwood Society, on October 20, will take an expert look at building restoration and conservation, delivered by someone who should know: Nick Wilson, of Stonewest, one of the country’s leading restoration, conservation and stone masonry companies.

Stonewest, who have their headquarters in Crystal Palace, have worked on restoration projects at St Pancras Station to St Paul’s Cathedral, from Selfridges to the Palace of Westminster.

“Wherever you go in London, and much of Britain, you will pass a building that Stonewest has played an important role in restoring,” say the Norwood Society’s talk organiser, Barbara Thomas.

Locally, Stonewest restored the Brixton Windmill, the brickwork of Stanley Halls and many monuments in West Norwood Cemetery.

At his talk, Wilson will explain the techniques and some of the challenges of Stonewest’s work.

The talk begins at 7.30pm on October 20, at Upper Norwood Library, Westow Hill, SE19 1TJ.

The event is free, but donations towards the staging costs and the Society’s upkeep are very welcome.
