The makers of a documentary which goes inside the black revolutionary protest organisations which have campaigned in London against gentrification with protests such as staging a die-in at a Westfield shopping centre are coming to South Norwood this week for a screening and to answer audience questions.
Usady Younis and Cassie Quarless are the makers of Generation Revolution, and will be at the Stanley’s Film Club this Wednesday, February 8, for the screening of their thought-provoking documentary.
Generation Revolution brings to screen the powerful story of a new generation of black and brown activists. The feature-length documentary film follows a new organisations as well as the young Londoners that are part of them.
The London Black Revolutionaries, or “Black Revs”, have a predilection for dramatic, raucous, direct action: from sabotaging anti-homeless spikes to staging a “Black Brunch” against gentrification.
Younger than the Black Revs, R Movement challenge the idea of the “Staid and Serious” political activist. Having formed on social media, they’ve turned online debate into political action.
The film chronicles the evolution of characters and organisations as they experience political awakenings, breakthroughs and, at times, disillusionment.
