Organisers want poets and jokers for Crystal Palace festival

Are you a poet (but didn’t know it)?

Or do you reckon you’re funnier than Max Miller*?

The Crystal Palace Overground Festival is conducting its own version of Britain’s Got Talent this year, with a special tent set aside in Crystal Palace Park on June 17 for local poets and comedians. Applications from budding Pam Ayreses and Mark Steels are being sought now.

To apply for one of the ten available slots (five for comedy and five for poetry), send an email to performance@crystalpalacefestival.org with your name, contact details and a short personal bio along with a link to YouTube, or similar, showing your four-minute performance. Please put in the email subject line whether you’re applying for a comedy or poetry slot.

Your audition showreel doesn’t have to be a live performance in front of an audience, just something that shows the material you’d like to deliver.

The organisers say, “Complete novices welcome to apply and no age restrictions with the young and the not so young equally sought.”

Deadline for applying is 5pm on Friday May 5. Then, poet Joe Duggan and comedian Charmian Hughes, who’ll be hosting and introducing the acts on the big day, will make the selection.

* Anyone under the age of 40 should ask their grandparents
