The Norwood Society’s next local history talk is on Thursday October 19, at Upper Norwood Library, when Stuart Hibberd, the Society’s authority on sport at the Palace, will present “The sporting history of the Crystal Palace in the 1860s and 1870s”. The talk begins at 7.30pm.

The talk will be including details about the first Crystal Palace Football Club.
Hibberd’s talk will fascinate everyone interested in local history, not only sporting types, as he tells of the larger than life characters he has discovered in his researches.
Cakes and tea or coffee will be available in the refreshment break.
The Norwood Society organisers say, “Our speakers give their time usually freely to present the talks which necessitate hours of research. The Society has many costs and initiatives such as the plaques project, which are of considerable expense. We therefore ask you to respond generously to our request for donations of at least £3.”
The Norwood Society is putting together a programme of talks for 2018 and are still seeking speakers. “Should you have something of historical interest that you feel would appeal to a Norwood audience please get in touch with us.”
