Crime fiction authors in discussion at Crystal Palace book shop

The Bookseller Crow, Crystal Palace’s foremost independent book shop, is staging a series of talks and events over the coming weeks, offering readers and fans to meet some of their favourite authors and ask them about their work.

First up, this coming Thursday, September 13 (7.30pm start), is an evening of noir from Rod Reynolds and Amer Anwar in conversation with Jake Kerridge, The Telegraph’s crime fiction critic.

Cold Desert Sky is Reynold’s third novel and couldn’t be more timely in its exploration of the exploitation of vulnerable women by powerful men, and the collusion between Hollywood and the moneyed elite in the late 1940s.

Brothers in Blood by Amer Anwar is a crime thriller set in the murky underworld of Southall. Amer has already won the Crime Writers’ Association Debut Dagger Award when he originally self-published Brothers In Blood.

It says here, “The crimes are brutal and messy and the main character, Zaq, is a hero worthy of Jack Reacher and yet operates in a world where the gangsters are Muslim.” Religion, culture and setting all play into this evocative novel.
