Bookseller Crow stages a night of memoirs and wildlife

Crystal Palace’s foremost independent book shop, the Bookseller Crow, on Westow Street, is staging a series of talks and events over the coming weeks, offering readers and fans to meet some of their favourite authors and ask them about their work.

On Thursday, September 20 (from 7.30pm), the store will be hosting Alys Fowler and Kate Bradbury.

“Cross-genre writing is one of the most exciting arenas being explored by writers,” the shop’s management says. “Kate Bradbury and Alys Fowler have both written striking emotionally rich memoirs which explore multiple themes through their brilliant stories.”

Kate Bradbury is an award-winning author and journalist specialising in wildlife gardening. The Bumble Bee Flies Away is “an affecting ode to growing hope against the odds in a backdoor garden and will inspire anyone who wants to do more to encourage their local wildlife”.

Alys Fowler’s Hidden Nature has been short-listed for the Wainwright Golden Beer prize.

“It’s an emotional and compelling memoir about transformation when Alys sets out in an inflatable kayak to explore Birmingham’s canal network. The book is about noticing the wild everywhere, including discovering and understanding our human internal wilderness.”
