This year’s Croydon 10K road race just got even Better

This Sunday’s Croydon 10K is one of south London’s most popular road races

Greenwich Leisure, the council’s leisure centre managers, under their trading name of Better, have joined the headline sponsors of this Sunday’s Croydon 10K road race.

The charity run – one of the most popular road races in south London  – brings together more than 500 elite athletes and fun runners on a course starting in Lloyd Park Avenue at 10.15am.

Previous winners of the race include two-time Olympic Games runner Lee Troop from Australia, Welsh international 1,500m athlete James Thie and Great Britain junior cross-country representative Peter Chambers, from the host club, Croydon Harriers.

Better manages the borough’s leisure facilities including eight leisure centres and Croydon Sports Arena – Croydon Harriers’ home track.

David Hughes, from Better, said, “Better exist to get more people more active more often, and we are delighted to be a main sponsor for this year’s Croydon 10K.

“By supporting community activities like this – as well as investing in the borough’s leisure facilities – we are improving Croydon residents’ health and wellbeing.”

Sunday’s race organisers expect thousands of pounds to be raised for local charities, who have all been offered a free place into the run. Croydon charities represented include Age UK Croydon, Daniel Spargo-Mabbs Foundation, Duffus Cancer Foundation, Palace for Life Foundation and the South East Cancer Help Centre.

Prizes are on offer in all age groups from junior men and women (under-20s) to veterans aged up to 70-plus.

For budding young athletes there is a 3km fun run for nine-to-14-year-olds.
