Water supplies returning to normal after Mitcham burst main

Thames Water say that supplies to households affected by yesterday’s burst water main in Mitcham should be back to normal today.

Thousands of homes and businesses in postcodes CR0, CR2, CR4, CR7 and SW16 were affected by the supply outage after a water main burst on Commonside East, near Mitcham Common. Thames Water said that failures at a booster station left some without any water, or low water pressure.

In the privatised utility’s latest update on its website this morning, they said that engineers continue to work to repair the Mitcham main, and, “Having successfully re-routed water from other pipes, all properties affected should have water back in your taps.”

There are some road diversions in the area of the burst main while works continue.

As to water supplies, Thames Water say, “During periods of high demand you may notice your water pressure is lower than normal, but this will improve once we have completed the repair and put things back to how they were.

“We’ll be working around the clock to get this done as quickly as we safely can.”
