The Croydonites Fringe is back!
Less than a month before the world-famous Edinburgh Fringe, for some of the acts, Croydon will be their last performance before heading to Scotland.
Co-presented with Stanley Arts, the Croydonites Fringe showcases performance, cabaret, comedy, music, dance, spoken word, theatre and shows for babies and children – there’s a huge range to suit the most discerning tastes!
Croydonites Fringe will be back in Studio 55 (Unit 55 of Centrale Shopping Centre), in their spiritual home The Front Room, at The Oval Tavern and Stanley Halls.
Look out for Jake Yapp’s Cornershop Showdown, where Yapp (BBC Radio 4, U&Dave, Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe) and his lovely assistant Julie host a gleefully shambolic game show where one lucky audience member could win a two-hour family holiday for four in North Luton!
Or Rob Duncan, Edinburgh cult favourite, who won Printer of the Year in 2024 and is now dominating the niche world of performance printing! Emma Davies is PR guru Allison Pope who’s restructuring the workforce – join her for power dressing and a hilarious PowerPoint!
Homegrown: Poetry from the Cronx is a collective of Croydon-based spoken word artists who’ll be taking over The Oval Tavern on July 4, preceded by Jenny Lockyer with witty guitar-based numbers inspired by The Goons and the Ealing Comedies. Jenny will also be bringing her work for babies and young children, Granny Pearl, to Studio 55 on July 5.
Game show hosts: Jake Yapp and Julie perform at Studio 55 (in Centrale) on July 4
Other locals include Emmy Fyles with her unique brand of feminist stand up, Andy Bone with light-hearted historical storytelling featuring Darwin and the Galapagos Islands, Star Dust (Kat McGarr) a faded icon bringing all the glamour, Maddie Hurley reimagining Croydon’s past, present and future and Agudo Dance Company with an evocative dance work inspired by the universal journey of the hero.
We haven’t forgotten younger audiences – there’s Tales in Motion (2-7 years), Sanskruti Dance (7+ years) and Funmi Adewole Elliott (8+ years) offering a mixture of dance and storytelling.
Music is supplied the Geeky Beats Big Band and their Critical Hits! A jazzy take on movie and TV music, and Rosie Yadid reminisces cabaret-style in the guise of Chayim Solonely and his late wife Mimi.
Storyteller Marie Phillips brings a personal family story to life, and Mika Hockman reveals the brutality of family courts.
And Brighton and Brussels are in the house! Straight from the Brighton Fringe comes NHS nurse Sister Brandy Bex and B!tch on the Mic Jess Nicks, and all the way from the land of chocolate and frites, we have comedian Julian Gypens.
