Transition Town looks to Cuba for inspiration

Croydon Transition Town is holding its first public event – a free film show on Sunday, February 17, at 7pm, at Matthew’s Yard, off Surrey Street.

The film is The Power of Communities – How Cuba Surivived Peak Oil, which is about how the Caribbean island coped with the United States trade embargo and the disruption to its fuel and food supply through the strength of its communities.

The organisers are hoping that the film inspires people to take a more positive attitude towards their communities, as well as raising awareness of the Croydon Transition Town initiative, about which you’ll find out more on the night.

No need to book – just turn up on the night. And while the show is free, donations will be warmly welcomed towards the Transition Town’s first project – a Community Garden in the Thornton Heath Recreation Ground.
