Blue is the colour as Croydon landlord honours promotion bet

Crystal Palace fans who drink in the Bull’s Head on Wandle Road, a proper old-fashioned boozer popular with the locals, have been prolonging their celebrations since their club won promotion to the Premier League.

They were sure that they had got one over the pub landlord, John McFarland, when one of their number, a local council worker, won a bet that the Selhurst Park side would win the Wembley play-off final against Watford last month.

And, good as his word, this week the painters have been working outside the pub on the corner of Laud Street, close to the Croydon Fly-over.

“We went and checked, and the paint’s the same colours they’re using at Selhurst Park,” one of the locals told Inside Croydon.

But the Palace contingent at the Bull’s Head might have the last laugh on them.

The landlord is originally from Scotland and is a passionate Rangers fan. And Rangers’ colours are known the world over as a proudly patriotic royal blue and red…
