Book launch for a tale of love, emails and Nigerian scams

Janet Kelly, a local journalist and businesswoman, has just had her first novel, Dear Beneficiary, published, and she will be signing copies and talking to potential readers at Dales on The Green in Warlingham tomorrow, May 30, between 2pm and 4pm.

Dear Beneficiary is the story of a 60-year-old suburban woman, widowed after a lifetime of marriage to a dutiful but dull husband, who embarks on an affair with a man nearly half her age which leads her into the expensive territory of a Nigerian email scam and a journey off to west Africa.

“Dear Beneficiary has a unique voice which questions the fragile foundations of middle-class conformity,” Kelly says.

Film rights to the book are said to be “under discussion”.

Kelly has been a journalist all her working life and runs a media company, Free Features, and has been recognised for her business acumen with a variety of awards including European Entrepreneur of the Year.
