Croydon Council’s going a bit Bollywood for the New Year’s Day parade in central London.

Teenaged dancers and adult drummers from Apsara Arts in Mitcham Road will be performing on and around Croydon’s float, which has been decorated by graffiti artist Skylight.
Bollywood is Croydon’s take on this year’s competition theme – Lights, Camera, Action! Every year since 1997 all of London’s boroughs have been invited to enter the parade with some form of entertainment based on the annual theme.
Wayne Trakas-Lawlor, the Mayor of Croydon, said: “The New Year’s Day parade is a really positive event for London as it brings together a wide range people from all over the city as both performers and spectators. It is shown across the world – so all eyes will be on Croydon. I am incredibly proud and honoured to be the Mayor of Croydon for this year and thank all those who are helping to put our entry together.”
LNYDP 2017 starts at 12 noon on January 1 on Piccadilly, and follows this route: Piccadilly Circus, Lower Regent Street, Waterloo Place, Pall Mall, Cockspur Street, Trafalgar Square, Whitehall and Parliament Street.
