The Hamsey Green-based club has been named as Harlequins community club of the year.
The award might have been given a bit of a nudge by former Quins and England captain Chris Robshaw, who started playing the game as a small boy at Warlingham.
The award from one of England’s leading clubs recognises the work done with schools and local communities, with volunteer coaches and officials providing a professionally run structure and organisation at the club, which has unearthed a host of top-flight players, including Robshaw, World Cup-winner Kay Wilson, and Scotland international Kyle Traynor.
Warlingham will be putting out four senior XVs this season, with players’ ages ranging from teens to accredited freedom pass-holders. Then, every Sunday from September, they will be holding minis and juniors sessions for six to 18-year-olds, including a rapidly growing girls’ and women’s section.
