HMRC has moved into its regional centre at Ruskin Square
The taxman opened its new Croydon offices yesterday, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 1 Ruskin Square.
The offices, built as part of Stanhope and Schroders development of the “Croydon Gateway” site next to East Croydon Station, will provide work space for 2,700 HM Revenue and Customs employees as the department’s first of 13 regional centres in a Civil Service reorganisation announced last year.
“The modern, hi-tech building will allow the department to work in new ways, delivering an effective service for customers and providing better work environments,” HMRC said in its official announcement. By moving to the regional centres, HMRC aims to save more than £300million by 2025 and make annual savings of about £90million by 2026.

“I’m incredibly proud to be opening our first regional centre,” Edward Troup, HMRC’s executive chair said when visiting Croydon yesterday.
“It is an exciting and important milestone on a journey to transform the way HMRC operates and interacts with their customers.
“This building is a great place to work. It brings teams together so they have the opportunity to work differently and more effectively, making HMRC a tax authority fit for the future.”
