Been there, backed the guide book, now get the T-shirt

Pickles, South Norwood’s own World Cup hero

A published tourist guide to the top 50 attractions in South Norwood?

Sounds unlikely?

Not to the South Norwood Tourist Board, which is conducting a fund-raising mission to put South Norwood in a book.

It’s already “on the map”, we’ve looked to check.

The SNTB is proposing, “50 photo pages in full colour with stunning photography and the kind of wit and raconteurdom that our readers have come to love.

“It’s bound to be a surprise best seller of the summer. They are gonna fly out like the parakeets in the bird sanctuary.”

As part of the fund-raising efforts, SNTB has launched a T-shirt campaign through Mercht.com, offering T-shirts celebrating some of the many reasons for pride in South Norwood.

Sharon is the guardian angel of the Sensible Garden

They include Sharon, the guardian angel of the Sensible Garden; Pickles, the dog that found the stolen Jules Rimet World Cup in 1966; and the SNTB ourselves.

The Don’t Fuck With The Tourist Board T-shirt commemorates the triumphant speech delivered by anarchic pensioner and Tourist Board co-founder Ian Bone on the steps of the Royal Courts of Justice after he had seen off a legal challenge from the Qatari royal family over his right to protest outside The Shard.

Mercht is a company that acts a bit like a Kickstarter; the campaign runs for a limited time and at the end they will print and send out the T-shirts to those who have bought them.

All profits will go to towards SNTB’s forthcoming guide.

There’s just two weeks left to run on the T-shirt offer. To get yourself your favourite design (or designs – you’re welcome to order more than one), click on the links below.
