Ruskin House musicians to take part in online May Day rally

Ruskin House, the home of the Labour movement in Croydon, may be closed for the duration, but that’s not going to stop them taking part in a “virtual” May Day rally on international workers’ day this Friday.

With the annual Trafalgar Square rally cancelled because of the coronavirus lockdown, the people who organise the usual jazz, folk and blues nights at Ruskin House are hoping to contribute to the virtual version.

“I think it’s a great idea and do hope that lots of you will want to get involved,” said Ruskin House organiser Sandra Peers.

“We’re asking musicians to play something appropriate for the occasion, video it and send it to the organisers.”

For more details of how to submit a video clip, email organiser@londonmayday.org.

The show will be on http://www.londonmayday.org from about 11am on Friday May 1, and is expected to be online for a few days afterwards.

“Wouldn’t it be lovely to be having a drink in the garden at Ruskin?” Peers said. “I do so miss it but look forward to ‘seeing you’ next Friday.”
