Authors talk about pirates, pigeons and patchwork unicorns

Our latest Under The Flyover podcast is a World Book Day Special, where we meet three local authors who have helped to inspire thousands of local schoolchildren from Croydon primary schools through their books and their readings at Waterstones bookstore over the past week.

Hands up if you want to read!: Sophia Wilson was one of the authors doing #WBD readings at Waterstones

Daniella Blechner, Sophia Wilson and Nicola Gordon talk about their works, how to become a published author, or even how to establish their own publishing business.

They talk about public libraries, monster pens, pirates, pigeons and patchwork unicorns…

Blechner is the founder of Conscious Dreams Publishing, and author of several young adult books, and most recently the children’s fantasy 9 Days of Piper Snow.

Sophia Wilson, together with her brother, illustrator Earl Wilson, have published children’s books including The Left-Handed Champ and I Am Violet.

Nicola Gordon, author of The Christmas Pirate, started writing her children’s stories during lockdown, and in 2024 is planning to publish another three books.
