Well trained: we have been unable to confirm whether Raye did a cover of the Glenn Miller classic, Chattanooga Choo Choo
Raye yesterday gave a surprise performance on a platform at Selhurst Station, to the delight and bewilderment of passing commuters.
Selhurst Station is just a short walk from where the multi-BRIT award-winning singer songwriter went to school in her teens at the world-famous BRIT School.
Accompanied by a six-piece blues band, Raye was promoting her first original single to be released since her celebrated independent debut album.
Raye’s debut studio album, My 21st Century Blues was released to critical and commercial success, and was named the Album of the Year at the BRIT Awards earlier this year, one of six trophies claimed by the singer, breaking records for most wins and nominations for an artist at the ceremony in a single year.
With trains rushing past on their way into central London as they performed, Raye and her band were playing an extract from her latest work.
A video of the performance went out on Raye’s Instagram, with the message: “Genesis will be yours at midnight”, which is not thought to be a reference to Phil Collins and his mates.
