Selsdon’s security shutdown after teenager’s midnight stabbing

Closed off: Addington Road at the junction of Old Farleigh Road this morning. Police tape can be seen on the other side of the junction

Selsdon was under a police lockdown this morning, after a teenager was stabbed just after midnight. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the incident followed a party staged in Selsdon Hall.

The 16-year-old boy is in a stable condition in hospital, according to the Metropolitan Police.

Road closures and bus diversions remained in place into the afternoon, with Addington Road closed in both directions and Old Farleigh Road also closed off while the police treated the area as a crime scene.

The Sainsbury’s supermarket was closed to customers, Selsdon Library was shut, a craft fare in Selsdon Hall was cancelled and ward councillors had to give up on holding their monthly residents’ surgery.

“We were called at 00:07hrs on Saturday, 5 July to reports of a stabbing outside a house in Addington Road, South Croydon,” the Met said in a statement.

“Met officers responded with paramedics and a 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with a stab wound. He remains in a stable condition. His next of kin have been informed.

“An investigation is underway and enquiries are ongoing. There have been no arrests.

“Any witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting CAD 39/05Jul.”
